WELCOME TO THE ANCIENT AND MEDITATIVE WORLD OF BLOCKPRINTING
Blockprinting, which is also called relief printing, has been in my life since the age of 10 when I carved and printed my first lino block in an afternoon art class. I blockprinted curtains for my bedroom when I was a teenager, and the fabric for my matric dance dress. I still use it in my practise as a printmaker.
I find the slow meditative process of carving and printing the lino block very calming. In this busy and frenetic world, I love that this ancient technique is done by hand, with no machines and no ways to speed it up. It is one of the easiest methods of printing and I so enjoy including blockprinting workshops in my studio offering.
